Privacy Policy

GradeGenius AI ("we", "us", "our") is a mobile app for students to track grades, study, and chat with classmates. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have. We designed GradeGenius AI to collect as little as possible — only what's needed to make the app work for you.

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account information. Your email address, password (stored as a salted hash — we never see the plain text), display name, and profile photo if you choose to upload one.
Content you create. Classes, semesters, assignments, grades, notes, photos you upload to a class, direct messages, and class group chat messages.
AI interactions. Questions you send to the AI tutor, flashcard prompts, quiz prompts, photos of notes you submit for text extraction, and syllabus content you upload. These are sent to Anthropic to generate responses.
Subscription information. Whether you have GradeGenius Plus, your subscription tier, renewal status, and a transaction identifier from Apple. We never see your payment card.
Device and log information. Standard server logs (IP address, request time, device model and OS version, app version, error stack traces) so we can keep the service online and fix bugs.

Permissions we request

GradeGenius AI only asks for the iOS permissions it needs to deliver features you choose to use. You can deny any permission and continue using the rest of the app, and you can change your choice at any time in iPhone Settings → GradeGenius AI.

Camera. Used only when you tap the camera button to photograph handwritten notes, a textbook page, or a worksheet so you can attach the photo to a class, send it in a chat message, or have the AI tutor work with it (for example, to instantly generate flashcards or a quiz from a page you just photographed).
Photo Library (read). Used only when you tap the attachment button to pick an existing image of your notes, an assignment, or your work — for example, to add a photo to a class folder, send it to a classmate in chat, or have the AI tutor explain a problem from a screenshot.
Photo Library (save). Used only when you tap Save on a flashcard, quiz result, or graded assignment so you can keep a copy or share it outside the app.

Photos and images you choose to attach are uploaded to our servers and stored with your account so they appear on your other devices and in the relevant chat or class. We do not scan your camera roll in the background and we do not access photos you have not explicitly chosen.

How we use information

To create and secure your account and authenticate you.
To store and display your classes, grades, notes, messages, and other content you create.
To process AI tutor, flashcard, and quiz requests and return responses to you.
To send transactional email (password resets, security alerts).
To process and validate subscriptions and provide access to Plus features.
To monitor performance, prevent abuse, fix bugs, and respond to support requests.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your data to train AI models. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Service providers we use

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate GradeGenius AI. Each receives only the minimum data needed for the service it provides:

Anthropic — receives the content you submit for AI features (AI tutor messages, flashcard and quiz prompts, photos of notes for text extraction, and syllabus content) to generate responses. Per Anthropic's API policy, this data is not used to train their models.
Apple App Store, RevenueCat, Stripe — handle subscription billing and entitlement checks.
Resend — sends transactional email such as password resets.
Replit (hosting) — hosts our backend API and database.

Children's privacy

GradeGenius AI is designed for high-school and college students aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at gradegenius@outlook.com and we will delete the account and any associated data.

Your rights and choices

Access and correction. Most of your data is directly editable inside the app — your classes, notes, profile, etc.
Account deletion. You can permanently delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete Account inside the app. This removes your account and all associated data within 30 days.
Block and report. You can block any other user from their profile or any message thread. You can report messages, profiles, notes, and photos using the menu in each surface.
Notifications. Manage push notifications in your iPhone Settings → Notifications → GradeGenius AI.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your data within 30 days, except for limited records we are legally required to retain (e.g., billing records).

Security

Your data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored on hosted infrastructure with industry-standard protections. Passwords are stored as salted hashes. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

International users

Our servers are located in the United States. By using GradeGenius AI you understand that your data will be processed in the United States. We rely on standard contractual safeguards with our service providers (such as Anthropic, Apple, RevenueCat, Stripe, Resend, and Replit) for any cross-border transfer of personal data.

European Economic Area, UK and Swiss users (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data:

The right to access the personal data we hold about you.
The right to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
The right to deletion ("right to be forgotten").
The right to restrict or object to certain processing.
The right to data portability.
The right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Our legal bases for processing your personal data are: (a) performance of the contract you enter with us by creating an account and using the app, (b) our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the app, (c) compliance with legal obligations, and (d) your consent where required (for example, when you grant the app permission to use the camera or photo library on your device). To exercise any of these rights, email gradegenius@outlook.com and we will respond within 30 days.

California users (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access and delete that information, to correct inaccurate information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. The "Information we collect", "How we use information", and "Your rights and choices" sections above describe these practices.

We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act, and we have not done so in the previous 12 months. To exercise any California privacy right, email gradegenius@outlook.com.

Tracking and analytics

GradeGenius AI does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not use third-party advertising networks, do not share data with data brokers, and do not require the App Tracking Transparency permission. We do not embed third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Significant changes will be communicated in-app or by email.
